The fourth episode of Lanterns, titled The Weenie, was directed by Geeta Vasant Patel and written by Breannah Gibson. The episode resumes with Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, visiting his imprisoned former mentor Sinestro, portrayed by Ulrich Thomsen. Sinestro warns Hal that his new trainee John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre, is designed as a permanent replacement for Sector 2814 rather than a temporary contingency. During the prison confrontation, Sinestro advises Hal on dealing with both a rogue Manhunter hiding in human form in Rushville and his trainee.

Before reuniting with Hal, John spends time sketching a woman named Zoe and receives a structured phone call from his father. John subsequently visits a local gun shop to buy a sniper scope without a firearm, using it to establish a surveillance post in a nearby tower overlooking Will Macon's compound. Hal lands directly in John's line of sight, falsely claiming his absence was due to womanizing in space rather than a secret trip to see Sinestro.
Despite their hidden agendas, the two Lanterns establish a working rhythm as they observe a helicopter landing on Macon's property. The pair deduces that the hidden landing area houses concealed technology and that Macon's anonymous benefactor is the undercover Manhunter manipulating the town.
