Both parents arrived at the Evelpidon court complex shortly after 11:00 on Tuesday morning, where they denied killing the child and argued that the baby died from natural medical causes. When questioned about stab wounds found on the infant, the defendants asserted that cuts may have occurred accidentally during efforts to break ice after death.
Forensic evidence and child welfare actions
A forensic examination of the infant revealed multiple sharp-force puncture wounds across the back as well as severe antemortem injuries, indicating violent physical abuse prior to death. Investigators date the child's death to 2022, after which the parents allegedly froze the body and transported it in a bag or suitcase when moving residences. Judicial authorities are also investigating whether maternal substance addiction caused the infant to suffer neonatal withdrawal syndrome. Following the initial police intervention, welfare authorities removed three surviving children (aged 15, 13, and 9) from the home and transferred them to a state care facility. The older two children are the biological offspring of the 43-year-old father, and all three informed authorities that they were aware the body was stored in the freezer.

Statutory abuse charges against third defendant
The magistrate also ordered the pre-trial detention of a 26-year-old Afghan national on charges of committing sexual acts with the couple's pregnant 15-year-old daughter. The man faces counts of sexual acts involving a minor both under and over the age of 12, joint illegal possession of ammunition, and providing false testimony. He told the magistrate that he believed the girl was an adult during their relationship.

Legal representation shift and prior custody
The hearings followed a split in the legal defense when attorney Christos Psarras withdrew from representing the 26-year-old after previously agreeing on Friday to represent all three suspects. Psarras noted that recent developments prevented joint representation as the parents modified earlier police statements, claiming the 26-year-old cohabited with them in 2022 rather than merely visiting over the past year.
