The incident

A fire broke out on the morning of Wednesday, 3 June 2026, in a first-floor apartment of a three-storey building in Korydallos, a suburb of Athens. The fire service was alerted shortly after 10:00 local time. Thick smoke filled the neighbourhood, and some reports mentioned the sound of explosions coming from the building.

Emergency response

Firefighting units arrived at the scene with four vehicles and between 12 and 15 firefighters, depending on the source. A special ladder vehicle was also deployed to assist with operations. Crews worked to bring the flames under control while conducting searches inside the apartment.

Search for occupants

Authorities launched an investigation into the possibility of people trapped inside the apartment. As of the latest updates, there had been no official confirmation of injuries or of individuals who had not yet evacuated the building.

Rooftop rescue
