Korona Kielce and Motor Lublin draw 1:1 after first-half headers from Stępiński and Czubak
First-half headers from Mariusz Stępiński and Karol Czubak sealed a 1:1 draw between Korona Kielce and Motor Lublin before 12,883 fans on Saturday.
First-half headers trade the lead
The opening Saturday fixture of the fifth round of the Ekstraklasa season in Kielce ended in a 1:1 draw between Korona Kielce and Motor Lublin before a crowd of 12,883 at the stadium on Ściegiennego Street. Motor entered the match having never won at the venue in the twenty-first century, with their last head-to-head victory coming in 2008. The hosts opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Martin Remacle delivered a cross from deep into the penalty area. Forward Mariusz Stępiński beat Bartosz Bereszyński in an aerial contest to head the ball past goalkeeper Mihai Popa for his second goal of the campaign. Korona pushed for an immediate second when Morgan Fassbender outpaced Bereszyński on the wing, but his 16-meter strike flew wide of the target. Motor responded in the 30th minute following a foul by Wiktor Długosz on Karol Czubak near the touchline. Ivo Rodrigues curled a free kick into the box, and Czubak directed a header into the net to record his third goal of the league season.
Second-half pressure and goal-line clearance
Both managers made tactical substitutions at halftime, with Jacek Zieliński introducing Nono for Stjepan Davidović and Mariusz Misiura bringing on Fabio Ronaldo in place of Makan Aiko. Korona controlled possession early in the second half and came close to regaining the lead in the 54th minute when a long-range effort struck the crossbar above Popa. Motor defended in a compact shape while searching for transitional chances on the counterattack. Slovak defender Marek Bartos nearly handed the visitors the lead, heading inches wide of Xavier Dziekoński's goal. In the closing sequence of stoppage time, Czubak broke through and directed a low shot toward the net, only for Korona defender Długosz to clear the ball off the goal line before Ronaldo could convert the loose ball. Referee Damian Sylwestrzak issued six yellow cards during the contest, booking Slobodan Rubezić, Kamil Jakubczyk, and Fassbender for the hosts, alongside Aiko, Rodrigues, and Pascal Meyer for Motor.

Managerial reactions and player dissatisfaction
Motor manager Misiura acknowledged his team's defensive focus and credited Korona for generating more danger during the match. He noted his squad's organisation in defending set pieces while pointing out nervousness during low-build possession phases.
Byliśmy bardzo skuteczni w obronie, obronie stałych fragmentów. Byliśmy mniej skuteczni w budowaniu niskim. Ale to jest początek sezonu, początek budowy drużyny.
Korona players expressed open dissatisfaction with the final scoreline after dominating large stretches of territorial play. Wiktor Długosz highlighted Korona's sustained second-half pressure and ability to pin Motor deep into their defensive zone.
Skłamałbym, gdybym powiedział, że nie czujemy niedosytu, bo mocno zamknęliśmy Motor na ich połowie. Czuliśmy mocną przewagę.
Midfielder Kamil Jakubczyk echoed those sentiments, noting that Korona controlled proceedings after the opening goal before conceding from an avoidable set piece.
Table standing and squad management
The single point left both sides level on five points in the standings, with Korona sitting in 10th position after four matches played and Motor holding 11th place after five fixtures. Rodrigues completed his first appearance for Motor following a three-week absence due to injury, providing the assist for Czubak's equaliser. Motor competed without Comoros international Yacine Bourhane, who was omitted from the matchday squad for medical reasons. Misiura used all five allotted substitutions, making four changes in the final ten minutes to protect the draw, including bringing on Marcel Santos, Krystian Simon, Jacques N'Diaye, and Mateusz Łęgowski. Motor next hosts Piast Gliwice on 29 August at 14:45, while Korona travels to face Wisła Płock.
