
Explosion destroys house in Kopydłów Nowy; woman trapped under rubble, rescuers race against time
Rescue teams are working to free a woman trapped under rubble after a powerful explosion destroyed a converted farm building in Kopydłów Nowy, Wielkopolska, on Sunday morning.
Explosion in a converted farm building
Just after 9 am on Sunday, an explosion tore through a building in Kopydłów Nowy, near Konin. The structure, a former farm building converted into a residence, partially collapsed, burying one person inside. Local media report the blast was so strong it destroyed most of the construction.
Rescue operation
Six fire brigades, two Polish Medical Air Rescue helicopters, and an ambulance crew arrived at the scene. A man who suffered burns managed to get outside and is being treated. A woman remains trapped under the debris, but rescuers have established contact with her.
We managed to contact the woman under the rubble. She is conscious, we are talking to her. The other person, a man who suffered burns, was outside the building.
Specialist search and rescue teams from Poznań and Łódź are on their way to support the operation. Rescue dogs are helping to search the pile of debris. Firefighters are working carefully to avoid further collapse of the remaining structure.
Investigation into the cause
The cause of the explosion remains unknown. Police and fire investigators will determine what triggered the blast once the rescue phase is complete.
