Elderly man arrested after trying to enter actress Maro Kontou's hospital room with a knife
Security guards at an Athens hospital stopped a 90-year-old man who was carrying a box containing a knife as he tried to enter the room where actress Maro Kontou is being treated on Wednesday evening.
Attempted intrusion
On Wednesday evening, a 90-year-old man arrived at the Attikon General University Hospital in Haidari, where actress Maro Kontou has been hospitalised for ten days. He was carrying a flower pot and a box, inside which a knife was later discovered. The man told a security guard he was a relative of the actress and wanted to visit her, according to reports. The guard became suspicious and searched the box, finding the knife.
Immediate response
Security personnel alerted the police, and a DIAS motorcycle unit arrived swiftly. The man was immobilised and arrested on the spot. He was then taken to the Haidari police station for questioning. The hospital's administrator informed Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis of the incident. Police are investigating the man's motives, but early information suggests he suffers from psychiatric problems.
Actress's hospitalisation
Maro Kontou, a well-known Greek actress, has been receiving treatment at the Attikon hospital for ten days. Her condition is being closely monitored by the medical team. The incident caused alarm among hospital staff, but no one was injured.
