Gardaí investigate after woman in her 40s found dead at Killarney home
Gardaí have launched an investigation after the body of a woman in her 40s was discovered at a house on Muckross Road in Killarney, County Kerry. A post-mortem examination is due to take place at University Hospital Kerry.
Discovery
The body of a woman, aged in her 40s, was found at a domestic residence on Muckross Road in Killarney on Tuesday afternoon. A family member discovered her and raised the alarm, according to RTÉ, while other reports indicated that friends became concerned for her welfare. She was pronounced dead at the scene after gardaí and emergency services responded to what was described as "an incident". The scene was immediately sealed off to allow for a full forensic and technical examination.
Anyone who was in the Muckross Road area of Killarney between the evening of the 6th and the afternoon of the 7 July 2026 and who may have camera footage, including CCTV or dashcam, is asked to provide this footage to investigating Gardaí.
Investigation
The discovery is being treated as suspicious, pending the results of a post-mortem examination. The State Pathologist has been notified and a full examination will be conducted at University Hospital Kerry. Gardaí said the result of this will determine the course of the investigation. A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the inquiry and an incident room has been established at Killarney Garda Station. Officers are now attempting to determine the last known movements of the woman around Killarney town, with door-to-door inquiries underway in the housing estate.
Background
The woman is understood to have been resident in Ireland for some time. Initial indications are that she may have moved to Ireland after living for a period in the United States. A family liaison officer has been appointed to assist her family.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the Muckross Road area between Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon to come forward. They are particularly interested in camera footage, including CCTV or dashcam.
