
22-year-old arrested in Kifissia for defrauding elderly woman of over €120,000 with 'electric shock' scam
A 22-year-old man was arrested on July 1 for a telephone fraud that tricked an elderly woman into handing over cash and jewelry worth more than €120,000 in Kifissia, northern Athens.
The scam
On 17 June 2026, the suspect and accomplices called an elderly woman in Kifissia, posing as employees of an electricity company. They claimed there was a risk of electric shock at her home and persuaded her to place money and jewelry outside the residence. The perpetrators then took the items, with the total value exceeding €120,000.
The arrest
Police from the Kifissia Crime Investigation and Detection Department identified and arrested the 22-year-old on the afternoon of 1 July 2026. An arrest warrant was already pending against him for professional and repeated theft.
Investigation and evidence
During a search of the suspect's home, officers seized clothing he allegedly wore during the crime, as well as jewelry. The vehicle used by the perpetrators was also confiscated. Authorities noted the 22-year-old had previously come to police attention for similar offences.
Legal proceedings
The arrested man was brought before the competent public prosecutor.
