Greek MP Georgios Manousos claims parliamentary role for new Kasidiaris-backed Alliance of Greeks

Declaration in the plenary

During a parliamentary questions session in the Hellenic Parliament on the afternoon of 21 September 2026, independent lawmaker Georgios Manousos declared that he will formally represent the party Alliance of Greeks. Manousos, who was elected in 2023 with the Spartiates party before becoming an independent, asserted during a discussion on education that his statements reflect the political programme of the formation. Fellow independent lawmaker Giannis Dimitrokallis, who serves as the legal representative of the group, was seated beside Manousos during the address.

Formally I am an independent deputy. Whatever I say, however, are also the positions of the Alliance of Greeks which I will represent. That is, the positions of the government programme of the Alliance of Greeks.

Kasidiaris endorsement and party origins

The declaration followed a video published on YouTube on the morning of 21 September 2026 by Ilias Kasidiaris, the convicted former second-in-command of Golden Dawn. In the 3-minute-and-42-second broadcast, Kasidiaris endorsed the Alliance of Greeks and affirmed that the group will contest the next parliamentary elections. The party was established in September 2025, when Dimitrokallis submitted its founding statute to the prosecution office of the Supreme Court. The formation lists three sitting independent lawmakers on its roster: Dimitrokallis, Dionysis Valtogiannis, and Manousos. All three were previously tried and acquitted by an Athens criminal court on charges of electoral deception regarding alleged proxy activities for Kasidiaris.

There is a party and it is the Alliance of Greeks. The Alliance of Greeks was legally founded in 2025. It is a national and democratic party and its statute has been filed with the Supreme Court prosecutor's office.

Legal arguments and candidacy status

Kasidiaris argued in his video that the Alliance of Greeks cannot be excluded from upcoming elections, citing correspondence between its affiliated lawmakers and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). He stated that an OSCE report criticised previous legislative amendments that barred his earlier party, Ellines, from running in national ballots. Regarding his own personal candidacy, Kasidiaris did not specify whether he intends to run on the party list, as an independent candidate in a single district, or through another legal arrangement. He stated that the final decision will become public when candidate submissions are delivered to the A1 section of the Supreme Court.

Opposition response and chamber dispute

Manousos's announcement triggered immediate criticism from opposition benches in the plenary chamber. Alexandros Kazamias of Plefsi Eleftherias urged all lawmakers to condemn the declaration, describing the political formation as a front designed to rehabilitate Golden Dawn within the legislature. Christos Katsotis of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) called on Deputy Minister of Education Nikos Papaioannou, who was present at the podium, to take an official stance against the group, though Papaioannou confined his remarks strictly to the educational query under review. Presiding officer Paris Koukoulopoulos intervened to reject a personal privilege point requested by Manousos after opposition members condemned the faction. Following the exchange, Manousos told parliamentary reporters that he had never been a member of Golden Dawn.
