Milestone match at Wembley
England captain Harry Kane equalled Peter Shilton's men's appearance record of 125 caps on Tuesday, leading his team to a 3-0 Nations League victory over the Czech Republic at Wembley Stadium. Kane marked the occasion by scoring two goals, taking his career tally for England to 91. The milestone arrived 11 years after his senior international debut at the same venue.
Before the match, Kane spoke to ITV about returning to Wembley for his 125th appearance.
I think it's always special, even just walking out now and seeing the stadium, just the excitement of what's to come. I try and never take it for granted. It's obviously a special night tonight, but as always, we've got to focus on the job.
Victory over the Czech Republic
England took the lead in the 27th minute when Czech defender Vladimír Coufal scored an own goal. Kane doubled the advantage before halftime, converting a pass from Morgan Rogers following a quick attacking move. Just before the hour mark, Kane scored his second of the night from an assist by Newcastle defender Lewis Hall to fix the final score at 3-0.

Manager Thomas Tuchel made four changes to the lineup that had defeated Croatia 7-0 on Saturday. Trent Alexander-Arnold returned at right-back for his first Wembley appearance for England in two years, while Myles Lewis-Skelly, Rogers, and Eberechi Eze also started. Kane was replaced in the 82nd minute by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, while James Garner, Jarrad Branthwaite, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Rio Ngumoha also appeared as second-half substitutes.
England scoring and cap milestones
Kane's international journey began in March 2015 against Lithuania, when he scored 79 seconds after entering the pitch as a substitute at age 21. He has since become England's all-time leading men's goalscorer, surpassing Wayne Rooney's previous totals for goals and outfield appearances. Earlier in 2026, Kane broke Gary Lineker's England men's World Cup scoring record, ending the tournament with 14 World Cup goals after scoring against Croatia and Panama.

Shilton had held the sole men's appearance record since 1990, having played 125 matches between 1970 and 1990 during an era when he rotated in goal with Ray Clemence, who earned 61 caps. Across all England teams, seven women have achieved more appearances, led by Fara Williams with 172 caps. Kane can take sole possession of the men's record in November 2026, when England face Croatia at home and Spain away in the Nations League.
Congratulations and club contract status
Following the match, the 77-year-old Shilton released a congratulatory video message on X directed at Kane.
You will go on and beat (the record) in November, I'm sure of that, and maybe go on and set a record that will never be beaten. Because you're still going strong, Harry, still playing well and scoring goals, and I know how much dedication and hard work you've actually put into achieving this.
Tuchel also praised Kane's professionalism and daily preparation before the match, noting that the striker had found a higher level since taking on his leading role at Bayern Munich. Alongside his international achievements, Kane is close to resolving his club future, with Sky reporting an agreement with Bayern Munich on a contract extension running until 2029.
