Tin Jedvaj departs Panathinaikos for Al Shabab, ending three-year spell
Croatian defender Tin Jedvaj has officially left Panathinaikos after three seasons, signing with Saudi Pro League club Al Shabab, the club announced on Sunday. The 30-year-old was not in coach Jakob Nistrup’s plans for the new campaign.
Confirmation of the transfer
Al Shabab announced the signing of Tin Jedvaj via social media in the early hours of Sunday, 26 July, bringing an end to his three-year association with Panathinaikos. The 30-year-old Croatian centre-back moves to the Saudi Pro League after the Greek club opted not to retain him for the new season.
Jedvaj was not included in coach Jakob Nistrup's plans, and his departure relieves Panathinaikos of one of the highest contracts in the squad, according to reports in the Greek media. The club had signed him from Lokomotiv Moscow, initially on a free transfer after agreeing a 500,000-euro deal in 2024.
Three years in Athens
Jedvaj first joined Panathinaikos in the summer of 2023 on loan from Lokomotiv Moscow. His performances over the following season convinced the club to purchase his rights from the Russian side in 2024. In total, the defender made 95 appearances across all competitions for the "Shamrock," scoring seven goals and providing two assists.
During his time in Greece, Jedvaj lifted the Greek Cup once, a trophy that underlined a successful collective period. He also demonstrated versatility, occasionally filling in at right-back when needed, which proved valuable during the previous campaign.
Memorable moments
Among the highlights of Jedvaj’s Panathinaikos career was a spectacular overhead kick goal in a 3-0 away victory against Panserraikos. His composure from the penalty spot also stood out: he converted in shootouts against both Olympiakos in the Greek Cup and Ajax in the Europa League qualifiers.
These contributions, along with his consistent presence in the backline, cemented his reputation as a reliable defensive option during his three seasons with the Athens-based club.

With the transfer now finalised, Panathinaikos moves forward without one of their highest earners, while Jedvaj begins a new chapter in Saudi Arabia.
