The development occurred after more than 10 days in intensive care following an assault outside a nightclub. His parents, Daniele and Loretta Maggiotto, remained at his bedside throughout the night after noticing preliminary limb movements on Saturday evening. Maggiotto opened his eyes, tracked his parents with his gaze, and squeezed his mother's hand. He also reacted to auditory stimuli in the room, opening his eyes and shifting his gaze toward his father when a chair was moved. Family lawyer Monica Cornaviera described the first reactions observed by the family.

Already yesterday evening Nicola had begun to give some positive signs of awakening with movements of the legs and arms.

Ongoing treatment and medical monitoring

Nurses and attending physicians at Hospital del Mar evaluated the patient's reactions favorably while emphasizing that full recovery requires continued patience. Maggiotto remains under partial pharmacological sedation, though doctors have steadily decreased the dosage in anticipation of a full awakening from his medically induced coma. Over recent days, clinical specialists have introduced physical therapy sessions to preserve his joint mobility and muscle tone during prolonged bed rest. Hospital leadership also arranged communication assistance, including an Italian neurosurgeon who serves as a department head at the facility and helps interpret medical updates for the parents, even without direct clinical charge of the case. The hospital has additionally provided psychological support services to assist the family during the hospitalisation.

Investigation into the Seasea Club assault

Spanish law enforcement authorities continue an active criminal investigation to locate and identify the individual or group responsible for the assault. Maggiotto was on holiday in the Catalan capital with a group of friends when he was punched outside the Seasea Club during the night between Wednesday, 12 August, and Thursday, 13 August. Detectives from the local police force are gathering and examining surveillance camera footage captured near the venue and along surrounding streets to establish the sequence of events. Investigators are cross-referencing this video material with statements collected from eyewitnesses who were present at the scene during the confrontation. To ensure direct representation during the Spanish proceedings, the Maggiotto family retained a local Spanish attorney to follow the investigation in Barcelona in coordination with their Italian counsel.

The victim's family, through their Italian legal representative Monica Cornaviera, publicly expressed gratitude to the medical team and the public for their assistance following the incident. In a released statement, Cornaviera noted that numerous individuals in Barcelona reached out to offer practical help to Daniele and Loretta Maggiotto, including assistance with finding temporary lodging, navigating language barriers, and handling daily needs.
