Spanish police investigate deaths of Irish couple found in jacuzzi by children

Discovery at Cap Blanc chalet

Spanish emergency services responded to an alert at a rented holiday home in the Cap Blanc urbanisation of Cullera, a coastal municipality south of Valencia, on the afternoon of Tuesday, 25 August 2026. Two teenage children discovered their parents, an Irish married couple aged 45 and 50, dead in and beside a jacuzzi on the residential property. Both victims were found completely unclothed next to the hydromassage bathtub. Following the discovery, the minors sought urgent assistance from the owner of the rented villa. The property owner promptly contacted the 112 emergency services dispatch centre, which mobilised medical personnel and law enforcement to the scene.

Specialist homicide investigation

Patrol officers from the Guardia Civil and emergency medical staff arrived at the chalet shortly after the 112 call. Following a preliminary assessment of the bodies and the surroundings, responders noted physical signs indicating that the deaths did not stem from natural causes. The Judicial Police Homicide unit from the Guardia Civil Command in Valencia assumed formal control of the investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident. A Civil Guard spokesperson in Valencia detailed the decision to deploy specialist homicide detectives.

I'm not in a position to say exactly why but the first officers who reached the scene found evidence pointing to the possibility the couple might not have died of natural causes and therefore a specialist Civil Guard homicide unit in Valencia was mobilised to take charge of the ongoing investigation.

Forensic examination and theories

Forensic personnel conducted a comprehensive technical search of the rented house to collect physical and environmental evidence. Reporting by the regional daily newspaper Las Provincias indicated that the deceased couple showed visible puncture injuries. Investigators have stated that while homicide detectives are directing the case due to unusual indications at the scene, accidental causes remain under active consideration. Detectives are reviewing potential factors including mechanical faults in the hydromassage equipment, toxic exposure, negligence, or third-party involvement.

Emergency care for the children

The couple's two teenage children, reported as aged 14 and 16 by Spanish authorities and 14 and 15 in an initial Civil Guard statement, both have special needs. Because neither child speaks Spanish, emergency responders requested immediate language and social support. Cullera Town Hall took custody of the minors and arranged assistance through municipal social services. Psychological support teams from the Spanish Red Cross were deployed to provide urgent trauma care for the siblings at the location.

Social workers subsequently transferred the two teenagers from the rented chalet to a local hotel. The children remain under the supervision of local authorities while awaiting the arrival of a relative travelling to Valencia from abroad to take responsibility for their care. Judicial authorities have commissioned post-mortem examinations to establish the exact timeline and cause of death.
