Night closures on the IP3 and IC19
Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) has announced two nights of overnight work on the IP3 between Santa Comba Dão and Viseu, on Monday night, 19 October, and Tuesday night, 20 October. In both directions traffic will be cut between 21:00 and 05:00, with drivers diverted onto the EN2. The works involve transporting and placing pre-cast beams and slabs needed to widen the road and build structures. On the first night the diversion runs between the Treixedo (Santa Comba Dão) and Tondela Sul junctions, and on the second between Canas de Santa Maria and São Miguel de Outeiro in Tondela. Separately, lanes on the IC19 will be suppressed in the Lisbon-to-Sintra direction between kilometres 7 and 10 from 23:00 on Saturday, 17 October, until 06:00 on Sunday, 18 October, for maintenance of the central reservation. IP says this is a suppression of lanes, not a full closure of the IC19.
Road works on the EN244 and the IP3 upgrade
On the EN244, in the municipalities of Avis and Ponte de Sor in Portalegre district, traffic will alternate under traffic lights between kilometres 99.320 and 102.262 from Monday, 19 October, until 22 October, while the road surface is repaired in specific spots. The IP3 work is part of a wider programme to double and upgrade the road between Santa Comba Dão and Viseu, across the municipalities of Santa Comba Dão, Tondela and Viseu. The section runs from kilometre 90.200, north of the Vila Pouca junction, to kilometre 117.722, at the overpass with the A25/IP5. Planned measures include widening the carriageway to a 2x2 lane profile, straightening and improving the alignment, reinforcing the pavement, and upgrading signage and safety equipment.
“This contract is part of the overall project that Infraestruturas de Portugal is developing to requalify and double the IP3, a road axis of undeniable regional importance.”
Cascais Line night services change
From 8 November, night services on the Cascais Line with origin or destination in Oeiras will start and end at São Pedro do Estoril because of station works. IP and CP Comboios de Portugal announced the change on Friday, 16 October. The stops between Oeiras and Cais do Sodré are affected, and boarding points at Oeiras may also shift during the works. The new timetables are due to be published in the week of 19 October. A road bus replacement service at night will continue to run to limit disruption for passengers. The companies say the works aim to strengthen the safety of the infrastructure, improve service reliability, and reduce the gap between trains and platforms to make boarding easier.
Preparing the high-speed rail link in Lisbon
IP's project to prepare for high-speed rail arrival in Lisbon includes expanding Gare do Oriente, building a new railway station at Chelas/Olaias, and modernising several rail sections between Lisbon and Loures. The project is open to public consultation until 25 November. The works could last up to three and a half years and would change rail circulation. They also involve demolitions and the occupation of new land.
