Inter Milan agrees €35m deal with Liverpool to sign Curtis Jones
Inter Milan has finalized a €35 million transfer package with Liverpool for midfielder Curtis Jones, who will travel to Italy for medical tests ahead of signing a five-year contract.
Transfer agreement and contract terms
Inter Milan has reached an agreement to sign English midfielder Curtis Jones from Liverpool in a deal valued at up to €35 million. The transfer package consists of a fixed fee of €30 million alongside €5 million in performance-related add-on clauses, with Liverpool also securing a 10% sell-on clause for any future sale. The agreement concludes weeks of formal negotiations after Liverpool initially sought a higher valuation before accepting the Italian club's structured proposal. The 25-year-old midfielder has received permission to travel to Milan to complete mandatory medical examinations before signing a five-year contract worth a net €3.5 million per season. Under manager Cristian Chivu, Jones is set to take over the midfield role vacated by Davide Frattesi following his transfer to Lazio.

End of a 16-year Liverpool tenure
The transfer ends Jones's 16-year spell at Liverpool, where he developed through the youth academy before joining the first-team squad in the 2019–2020 season. Over his career on Merseyside, Jones recorded 228 appearances and scored 22 goals across all competitions. During the previous Premier League campaign, he made 34 appearances and started 18 matches, though his playing time was expected to diminish under Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola. With only one year remaining on his contract, Liverpool chose to monetize the homegrown player rather than risk losing him on a free transfer, a scenario the club previously experienced with Ibrahima Konate, Andrew Robertson, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. To fill the vacancy in the first-team squad, Liverpool will promote 19-year-old academy midfielder Trey Nyoni, who impressed coaching staff during pre-season preparations, rather than signing an external replacement.

Inter Milan's English contingent under Chivu
Jones becomes the third English footballer signed by Inter during the summer transfer window, joining defender John Stones from Manchester City and full-back Djed Spence from Tottenham. Stones scored during a pre-season friendly against Real Betis, while Spence arrived in a €35 million package and is prepared to make his competitive Serie A debut on Saturday against Monza. Prior to this transfer window, only three English players had represented Inter in the club's century-long history: Gerry Hitchens, Paul Ince, and Ashley Young. The purchase of Jones concludes pursuit efforts led by sporting director Piero Ausilio and Chivu that initially began during the January transfer window.
Squad integration and transfer background
Transfer reporter Ben Jacobs described the status of negotiations between the two clubs as the agreement was completed:
Inter is in direct talks with Liverpool to close a deal for Curtis Jones. The package structure is under discussion, similar to the €35 million that allowed Inter to sign Djed Spence. Talks are progressing in a positive direction.
Jones, who holds six senior caps for England and missed out on the national squad that reached the World Cup semi-finals, joins an Inter central midfield group that includes Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu, Petar Sucic, Piotr Zielinski, Aleksandar Stankovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Andy Diouf.
