American influencer Connor Murphy, 32, drowns in Thai lake after fleeing police in erratic episode
Connor Murphy, a 32-year-old American bodybuilder and 'looksmaxxing' influencer with millions of followers, died on Tuesday after jumping into a lake in Samut Prakan while trying to evade police.
The incident
On Tuesday afternoon, 7 July 2026, Connor Michael Murphy, a 32-year-old American fitness influencer and bodybuilder, drowned in a lake at a luxury residential complex in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan province, about 16 miles south of Bangkok. Police were alerted around 3 p.m. to reports of a disturbed foreign man vandalizing a rental villa valued at $22 million. Witnesses described Murphy throwing black and yellow paint across the walls before fleeing the scene.
Erratic behavior and attempted escapes
Before the drowning, Murphy exhibited increasingly erratic actions. He tried to pay a driver 1,000 baht (about €26) for a ride, but the driver refused, sensing something unusual. Murphy then banged on another vehicle's window, demanding to be taken inside the gated community. When that driver also refused, he screamed, rolled on the ground, and raised his hands as if praying. Security staff and residents called the police.
The drowning
When officers arrived, Murphy ran abruptly and jumped into the lake, which is over 10 meters deep. He swam for several minutes until he appeared exhausted and sank beneath the surface. A female employee recorded video of the incident, which police are reviewing. Rescue divers arrived and, after a 30-minute search, recovered his body about 20 meters from the shore. No signs of foul play or violence were found on the body.
