India reached 406-2 in 43.3 overs to seal an eight-wicket victory in Guwahati, securing an unassailable 2-0 series lead after West Indies posted 405-7.
Fastest double century in Guwahati
India captain Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 223 from 133 deliveries to lead India to an eight-wicket victory over West Indies at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday. Gill reached his double century in 117 balls, breaking the previous record of 126 deliveries set by India's Ishan Kishan against Bangladesh in December 2022. The 27-year-old struck 26 fours and eight sixes in his innings, marking his second one-day international double hundred following his 2023 performance against New Zealand in Hyderabad. The result handed India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match bilateral series, completing the run chase with 39 balls to spare.

West Indies set early total of 405
Batting first, West Indies compiled 405-7 in their 50 overs, marking the team's highest total and first score above 400 in one-day internationals. John Campbell struck 101 off 65 deliveries with nine fours and five sixes before falling to Gurnoor Brar, recording the fifth-fastest century by a West Indian batter after Keacy Carty's early dismissal. Captain Shai Hope reached 104 to complete his 20th one-day international century, while Amir Jangoo scored 114 from 77 balls. Roston Chase contributed during the closing overs as West Indies added 76 runs across the final 10 overs of the innings. It marked the sixth instance in one-day international cricket where three batters scored centuries in the same innings.
After the match, Gill reflected on the fielding effort and the scale of the target facing India during the break.
When it was 13 overs, it felt like we had fielded for 25 overs, the way they were batting. Great game. At the half time, 400 on the board, there was a bit of pressure. No matter the pitch or ground, chasing 400 is not easy. Very proud of that performance and happy to stay unbeaten till the end.
Opening partnership anchors the chase
India began the chase with an opening stand of 255 runs between Gill and Rohit Sharma. Sharma reached his 35th one-day international century, scoring 101 from 72 balls and surpassing 12,000 career runs in the format before being dismissed by Jayden Seales. Following Sharma's exit, Virat Kohli contributed 29 runs from 19 balls before Shamar Joseph took his wicket with the score at 320-2. Ruturaj Gaikwad added an unbeaten 31 runs from 37 deliveries to support Gill in completing the victory at 406-2 in 43.3 overs on a batting-friendly Guwahati pitch.

Place among highest run chases
The match featured five individual centuries across both sides (Campbell, Hope, Jangoo, Sharma, and Gill), representing the first time five players scored hundreds in a single one-day international. India's final score of 406-2 established the second-highest successful run chase in one-day international history, trailing only South Africa's 438-9 against Australia in Johannesburg in 2006. The performance also surpassed India's previous highest successful run chase of 360 against Australia in 2013 and stood as India's sixth-highest total in one-day internationals. Prior to this match, the next highest successful chase had been the Netherlands' 374-6 against Scotland in June 2025, while the only other team to post 400 batting second was Sri Lanka with 411-8 against India in Rajkot in December 2009.
