Warsaw's Southern Hospital to replace entire supervisory board after scandal involving KO-linked doctor
Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski has approved new members for the supervisory board of Szpital Południowy, while the medical chamber demands an end to party influence in public healthcare.
The scandal
A probe by portal Zero.pl revealed that Dawid Kacprzyk, a 29‑year‑old trainee anaesthesiologist and a city‑council member from Civic Platform (KO), earned about 1.6 million złoty in 2025 while coordinating the hospital's emergency department. Media later reported an alleged "VIP lounge" for KO politicians and their families, who were said to be admitted without waiting and given fast‑track tests.
Nie będzie w nich polityków.
Management removed
On Thursday, the existing supervisory board, which had been in place since September 2025 and included Warsaw’s vice‑president Aldona Machnowska‑Góra and Ursynów mayor Robert Kempa, dismissed the hospital’s management board at the mayor’s request. Director Anna Łukasik and deputy Agata Kusz‑Rynkun were removed. Kacprzyk resigned from KO, gave up his council seat, and returned about half a million złoty to the hospital.
Medical community reacts
The Presidium of the Warsaw Regional Medical Council issued a statement calling for a clear separation between active political engagement and management of publicly‑funded healthcare. It asked the authorities to eliminate situations where party membership might influence hiring, promotion or contract amounts. The council also warned against language stigmatising the entire medical profession and argued that a public wage register linked to national ID numbers would not shorten waiting lists or improve patient safety.
W przypadku stanowisk zarządczych wybór powinien być jasny: czynna działalność polityczna albo zarządzanie podmiotem leczniczym finansowanym ze środków publicznych.
De‑politicisation pledge
Rafał Trzaskowski told reporters on Friday that the supervisory boards of all city‑owned medical companies would be stripped of politicians. New board members for Szpital Południowy, described as healthcare experts and municipal officials, were approved the same day. The only remaining step is the submission of criminal‑record certificates, which city hall expects by Monday, allowing the board to be formally appointed.
