Spanish international forward Jenni Hermoso has completed a transfer to Atletico Madrid, signing a contract that runs until 30 June 2027. The 36-year-old moves back to the Spanish capital after agreeing to terminate her contract with Mexican club Tigres, where she had been committed through December 2027. Ahead of the official announcement, Hermoso completed medical examinations at the Centro de Medicina Deportiva de Alto Rendimiento Vithas-Invictum at Hospital Universitario Madrid Arturo Soria. She will wear the number 9 shirt for the upcoming campaign. Atletico begins its Liga F season on Sunday at 21:00 against Real Madrid.

Career across domestic and European leagues

This signing is Hermoso's third separate spell with Atletico Madrid. Born in Carabanchel, Madrid, on 9 May 1990, she joined the club's youth academy at age 12 and made her senior debut in 2006. In her early years with the club, she scored the decisive goal against Unio Esportiva L'Estartit that secured promotion to the Spanish top division. Her first tenure concluded in 2010 when she transferred to Rayo Vallecano, where she secured the first league championship of her professional career.

Hermoso subsequently spent time in Sweden with Tyreso and in France with Paris Saint-Germain, alongside two spells at FC Barcelona. At Barcelona, she recorded 181 goals across all competitions, ranking as the second-highest scorer in the club's history. Between those stints in Catalonia, Hermoso returned to Atletico Madrid for the 2018–2019 season. During that second spell, she scored 24 goals in 28 league matches, finding the net in 17 separate fixtures, to finish as the league's top scorer and help Atletico capture its most recent league title.

Conclusion of Mexican stint and national achievements

Hermoso spent the previous four years competing in Mexico, having first moved abroad in 2022 to join Pachuca before transferring to Tigres. During her two and a half years in Monterrey with Tigres, she recorded 20 goals in 55 matches, winning one Liga MX Femenil title and one Campeon de Campeones trophy.

Hermoso's arrival comes as Atletico Madrid attempts to close the gap on FC Barcelona, who has won the previous seven Spanish league championships, three of the past four Champions League titles, and the last three Copa de la Reina tournaments. Since winning the league title with Hermoso in 2019, Atletico has added two trophies to its cabinet: the Supercopa de Espana in 2021 and the Copa de la Reina in 2023. The forward joins a squad looking to integrate veteran experience alongside younger players for the 2026–2027 season.
