Trial opens in Heilbronn for two men accused of kidnapping former employer in car trunk

The ambush and abduction in Besigheim

The criminal proceedings in Heilbronn address an abduction that took place in mid-March in a commercial area in Besigheim, located in the Ludwigsburg district. Two men, aged 21 and 24, allegedly ambushed their 28-year-old former employer as he was moving through the commercial zone. The two suspects overpowered the entrepreneur, physically tied him up, and forced him into the trunk of a passenger car. The victim remained locked and restrained inside the vehicle overnight while the perpetrators carried out their demands. At the opening of the trial, the court noted that it remained unclear whether an earlier workplace dispute or personal conflict between the business owner and his former staff had preceded the violent encounter.

Extortion of credentials and illicit orders

While holding the 28-year-old man captive in the car, the two assailants threatened him with physical violence to obtain access to his financial and personal accounts. Under this sustained threat, the victim yielded security passwords for his laptop, his mobile phones, and his bank cards. The two suspects utilized these compromised credentials to execute immediate digital purchases, ordering goods online with an aggregate value of more than 87,000 euros. After completing the fraudulent orders and keeping the victim restrained through the night, the men transported him to an agricultural area outside Steinheim an der Murr. On the morning following the abduction, the captors left the 28-year-old abandoned along a rural field path, where he was found with minor physical injuries.

Tactical arrests and the wider suspect group

The abduction prompted an immediate investigation by law enforcement, leading to an operation by a special tactical police unit (SEK). Tactical officers arrested the 21-year-old and 24-year-old suspects, placing both men into pre-trial detention in early April. The judicial inquiry subsequently expanded beyond the two primary assailants to examine a broader network of alleged collaborators. In July, three additional suspects were remanded into pre-trial custody as part of the ongoing investigation. The public prosecutor's office stated that although these three individuals did not take part in the physical abduction and confinement in Besigheim, they were fully integrated into the planning and execution of the crime from the start.

Trial proceedings at the Heilbronn District Court

Six months after their arrest by special police forces, the two primary defendants appeared before the Landgericht Heilbronn to face formal charges. The indictment charges the 21-year-old and 24-year-old men with predatory kidnapping, designated under the German penal code as erpresserischer Menschenraub. The trial focuses on the physical confinement of the victim, the coerced extraction of digital credentials, and the illicit acquisition of over 87,000 euros in merchandise. Judges are scheduled to examine the exact mechanics of the March abduction, the distribution of roles between the two defendants, and the operational links to the three other individuals detained since July.
