
Southern Spain Braces for Scorching Start to June as Yellow Heat Alerts Issued Across Córdoba, Jaén and Seville
Spain's meteorological agency AEMET has activated yellow warnings for high temperatures across several Andalusian provinces on Monday, with thermometers expected to reach 39°C in parts of Córdoba, Jaén and Seville.

Spain's State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated yellow alerts for high temperatures on Monday, 1 June, covering the provinces of Córdoba, Jaén and Seville. The warnings apply specifically to the Campiña cordobesa, the Campiña hispalense, and the Jaén districts of Sierra Morena, Condado and the Guadalquivir Valley. The alerts will be in force between 14:00 and 20:00, when the heat is expected to peak.
The yellow warning for high temperatures has been activated in the Campiña cordobesa between 14:00 and 20:00 hours.
Monday's forecast
Monday is set to be the hottest day of the week. Maximum temperatures will reach 39°C in Córdoba city around 18:00, while Jaén and Linares will see highs of 37°C and 38°C respectively. Seville's countryside is also under the same yellow alert with expected highs of 39°C. Skies will be mostly clear or lightly cloudy across the region, with light westerly breezes prevailing. Minimum temperatures will range from 19°C in Córdoba to 25°C in Jaén.
The week ahead
Tuesday will bring a slight easing of conditions, though the heat will remain intense. Córdoba is forecast to reach 38°C, Jaén 35°C, and Linares 36°C. The yellow warning will be lifted, but skies will stay largely cloudless. By Wednesday, a more noticeable respite arrives: Córdoba's maximum will drop below 35°C, Jaén will see 33°C, and Linares 34°C. No rainfall is expected on any of these three days.

Weekend outlook
Looking further ahead, the weekend promises more bearable conditions for Córdoba. Maximum temperatures are not expected to exceed 32°C, and minimums could fall to 16°C, offering a gentler start to June after a sweltering opening week. The province is already facing a summer marked by intense heat, following a Feria de Córdoba that saw temperatures surpass 40°C.
Regional picture
Beyond Andalusia, the heat is also being felt in central Spain. Brunete, in the Madrid region, was under a yellow alert on Sunday with highs of 35°C, and Monday will see similar temperatures around 34°C in the capital itself. Other municipalities such as Las Rozas de Madrid and nearby cities like Toledo and Segovia are experiencing predominantly clear skies and rising temperatures as the heatwave extends across the interior.
