Deutsche Bahn cancels and reroutes trains across Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein through Sunday 16 August

Deutsche Bahn has announced a series of train cancellations and timetable changes on lines in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein running through the weekend. Until Saturday 15 August inclusive, RE7 and RE70 trains between Hamburg and Kiel as well as Flensburg will temporarily begin and end in Altona rather than the Hauptbahnhof. The Hauptbahnhof and Dammtor stations will not be served during this period. Passengers travelling between Altona and the Hauptbahnhof are advised to switch to the S-Bahn.

Sunday full-day cancellations

On Sunday 16 August, trains will be cancelled all day in both directions on three stretches: RE7 between Hauptbahnhof and Pinneberg, RE70 between Hauptbahnhof and Neumünster, and RE6 (Hamburg-Altona to Westerland) between Altona and Elmshorn. The S-Bahn can be used as an alternative between Hamburg and Pinneberg. Between Pinneberg and Neumünster, Kiel and Flensburg, the RE7 line remains available. On all other affected stretches, Deutsche Bahn will set up bus replacement services.

RE6X evening and overnight suspension

A separate disruption affects the RE6X line between Altona and Husum. Trains on this route will be cancelled from Saturday 15 August at 18:45 until Sunday 16 August at 10:00. Deutsche Bahn is asking passengers to check for short-term changes before starting their journey, as further adjustments may occur on short notice.

Passenger guidance

The rail operator recommends that all travellers inform themselves about the latest timetable changes before departure. The combination of S-Bahn connections, remaining RE7 services on certain segments, and bus replacement vehicles is intended to keep passengers moving, though journey times will likely be longer than usual. No specific reason for the disruptions is given in the announcements.
