Greece forecasts warmer weather and clear skies before midweek storm system
Warmer temperatures and sunny conditions will develop across Greece starting Monday, offering a brief respite before a low-pressure system brings rain to western regions later in the week.
Clearer skies and regional temperature shifts
A period of sunny weather and rising temperatures will begin across Greece on Monday, 5 October 2026, following the retreat of recent weather disturbances. Maritime conditions and lingering southern showers
Although sunshine will dominate mainland districts, localized precipitation will persist over southern island areas during the morning hours. Rain will remain confined to northern and mountainous sectors of Crete as well as the southern Dodecanese islands of Kasos, Karpathos, Rhodes, and Kastellorizo. Meteorologist Sakis Arnaoutoglou noted that soil across Crete remains heavily saturated from severe weather over preceding days, cautioning that even brief showers could cause surface water accumulation before activity diminishes and shifts southeast by Monday night. Northerly winds across the Aegean Sea will reach 5 to 6 Beaufort, with localized gusts reaching 7 Beaufort in the Cyclades and 8 Beaufort in South Evia during morning hours before steadily subsiding.
Forecast for Athens and Thessaloniki
Major urban centers will experience calm autumn weather on Monday. The Attica region and Athens will see sunshine with temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius, though northern parts of the prefecture will experience temperatures 3 to 4 degrees lower. Northerly winds blowing at 4 to 5 Beaufort in central Attica and 6 Beaufort in eastern coastal areas will moderate by late afternoon. Thessaloniki will also experience clear skies, with temperatures moving between 9 and 25 degrees Celsius and gentle, variable winds across the Thermaic Gulf.
Midweek warmth and incoming European storm front
Favorable conditions will persist across almost all regions on Tuesday, 6 October, with only Kastellorizo facing a possibility of morning showers. Temperatures will hold between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius across the mainland, reaching 28 degrees in western districts. On Wednesday, 7 October, southerly winds will carry warmer air masses over Greece, pushing thermometers to between 26 and 29 degrees Celsius in central and southern areas alongside elevated humidity and early morning fog.
- Temperatures rise across Greece with isolated showers in Crete and Dodecanese
- Sunny conditions prevail nationwide with highs reaching 28°C in western districts

The stable interval will conclude late on Wednesday as a new low-pressure system moves eastward from Western Europe. Showers and thunderstorms will begin across the Ionian Sea and northwestern Greece on Thursday, 8 October, with rain intensifying across western districts on Friday, 9 October, before tracking eastward through 10 October.
