Juventus signs Polish goalkeeper Kamil Grabara on loan from Wolfsburg

Juventus finalized the signing of Polish goalkeeper Kamil Grabara from VfL Wolfsburg on Tuesday, 25 August 2026. The 27-year-old goalkeeper joins the Italian club on a season-long loan running until 30 June 2027. Reporting across Polish sports outlets indicates the contract contains an option to buy valued between 11.5 million and 12 million euros, though official club announcements did not confirm the clause. Grabara landed at Turin Caselle airport on Tuesday just after 13:00 local time and went directly to the J Medical centre for physical testing before signing his contract. Juventus welcomed the goalkeeper on social media in Polish with the phrase "Witamy Kamil", while Grabara shared a video greeting with supporters.

Goalkeeping reshuffle at Juventus

Grabara arrives in Turin following a complete overhaul of the Juventus goalkeeping position ahead of the new campaign. Michele Di Gregorio left the club earlier in the week to join Premier League side Bournemouth on loan, while Mattia Perin finalized a transfer to Palermo. Juventus had previously signed Guglielmo Vicario on loan from Tottenham to serve as the starting goalkeeper. Italian press reports initially projected Grabara as the primary backup to Vicario. However, Vicario suffered an injury during the opening Serie A match against Frosinone and could not complete the game, creating an immediate opportunity for Grabara to compete for starting minutes. Carlo Pinsoglio remains with the squad as the third goalkeeper.

Departure from Wolfsburg and club career

The transfer follows a difficult season for Wolfsburg, who suffered relegation from the German Bundesliga to the 2. Bundesliga after losing in the relegation playoffs. Grabara made 37 appearances for Wolfsburg last season and registered 69 total appearances for the club, conceding 120 goals and keeping 12 clean sheets. He had recently lost his starting spot at Wolfsburg to 18-year-old Jakub Zieliński. Earlier in the transfer window, Olympique de Marseille and Club Brugge showed interest in the goalkeeper, but neither club completed a deal. Grabara began his professional development at Ruch Chorzów before joining Liverpool in 2016, where he did not make a first-team appearance. He subsequently completed loan spells at Aarhus GF and Huddersfield Town before spending three years at FC Copenhagen, where he won two Danish league championships and one Danish Cup prior to his 2024 move to Germany.

Polish presence in Turin

Grabara, who was born on 8 January 1999 in Ruda Śląska and has earned six senior caps for Poland, becomes the fourth Polish player in Juventus history. He joins fellow Polish international and Silesian native Arkadiusz Milik in the current squad, alongside a lineage established by Zbigniew Boniek and Wojciech Szczęsny. Szczęsny guarded the Juventus goal for seven seasons between July 2017 and August 2024 following an 18.4 million euro transfer from Arsenal. During his spell in Turin, Szczęsny won three Serie A titles, three Italian Cups, and two Italian Super Cups. Szczęsny had previously endorsed Grabara during an appearance on the Polish football channel Foot Truck, speaking about his potential between the posts.

Grabara is now registered to represent Juventus as the Italian club begins its domestic and European campaigns.
