Marvel Unveils Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider and Shows Doomsday Footage at Comic-Con
At San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider in a 2028 film, revealed Black Panther 3 casting, and showed exclusive Avengers: Doomsday footage. Ryan Reynolds crashed the panel in a grey Deadpool suit.
The Ghost Rider reveal
Kevin Feige opened the Marvel Studios Hall H panel on Saturday by granting a long-running rumor. The first announcement brought Ryan Gosling to the stage to confirm he will star as Ghost Rider. A logo for the film appeared, and Gosling, appearing dumbfounded, told the crowd:
As you know this is a character I've wanted to play for a really long time.
He then teased that only one director could helm it, and Feige revealed Shawn Levy, who recently directed Deadpool & Wolverine. The film is slated for 2028.
Black Panther 3 and the 2028 slate
Ryan Coogler, director of the Black Panther franchise, announced that David Jonsson will play T'Challa's adult son in Black Panther 3. The film is also expected to arrive in 2028, joining Ghost Rider on the studio's calendar. No footage or additional casting details were shared. Feige chose to keep the panel focused on upcoming movies, skipping television updates entirely.
Deadpool's surprise appearance
Halfway through the Doomsday portion, Ryan Reynolds appeared in the crowd wearing a grey, X-Force-style Deadpool suit that has not yet been seen on screen. He introduced himself jokingly as "Ricky" and aimed his first question at Paul Rudd:
First question is for Mr. Paul Rudd. Where is Thor, and why was he crying?
Rudd deadpanned,
Reynolds fired back,He's a Wrexham fan?
You know goddamn well why he was crying.
When Reynolds asked about shooting schedules, Robert Downey Jr. replied,
The Russo brothers later said they would be open to additional photography, fueling speculation that Deadpool could still be added, though no official confirmation has been made. It's in the can, bro. Look around you. Did you bump your head?
Exclusive Doomsday footage
Marvel screened never-before-seen footage from Avengers: Doomsday for the Hall H audience. It opens with Doctor Doom on a golden throne, green energy pulsing beneath him. In voiceover, Vanessa Kirby's Sue Storm narrates:
Victor was always the smartest guy in every room. He used to be different. Then everything he loved was taken from him.
She later adds,
I knew he was lost, but didn't realize he was broken.
The camera flies over a destroyed city and Reed Richards asks, "Victor, did you do this?" Quick shots show a crying Magneto, Charles Xavier and Steve Rogers with a baby. Doom tells the assembled heroes,
All of you have lived storied lives. And now you must give them back.
Thor leaps at Doom with Stormbreaker, vowing,
Doom stops him with a finger and flicks him away with green energy before raising an army of Sentinels from the ground.I swear you'll beg for Hell when I'm through with you.
Doom says.Hell answers to me,
