Trinitarios member ambushed and stabbed to death in Madrid; two teens gravely wounded in suspected DDP gang attack
A 23-year-old construction worker with ties to the Trinitarios gang was ambushed and stabbed to death in Madrid's Ciudad Lineal district late Friday, while two 17-year-old companions were gravely wounded. Police suspect a pre-planned attack by the rival Dominican Don't Play gang and fear a new wave of retaliatory violence.
The ambush
Shortly before midnight on Friday, July 17, three or more assailants armed with knives and machetes attacked a group of young men in a small park on Calle Elfo in Madrid's Ciudad Lineal district. The attackers had been lying in wait inside a building doorway, according to witnesses, and struck from behind as the victims passed by. The assault lasted only seconds, leaving one man fatally stabbed and two teenagers seriously wounded. The assailants then fled on electric scooters, a tactic increasingly used in gang-related violence across the city. Police believe the attack was a premeditated "caída," the term used by Latin gangs for a planned ambush on a rival member.
Victims and injuries
The deceased was a 23-year-old Spanish national, identified by police sources as Dionisio Sebastián C. S. He worked in construction and had prior arrests linked to the Trinitarios gang. He suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest and abdomen and went into cardiac arrest at the scene. Samur-Protección Civil paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for several minutes but were unable to save him. Two 17-year-olds who were with him also sustained serious injuries. One, a Colombian national, was taken to Hospital Doce de Octubre in very grave condition with wounds to the arm and thorax. The other, a Peruvian, was hospitalized with deep cuts to his back. Neither minor had a criminal record.
Witness accounts
The violence erupted near a busy bar terrace, where patrons watched in horror. A bar employee told ABC that one of the wounded teenagers had entered the establishment shortly before the fight to ask for a glass of water but was refused. Minutes later, the same boy ran back inside, bleeding heavily, and tried to hide behind the counter. The worker ordered him out, then saw his shirt soaked in blood. A doctor who happened to be on the terrace provided first aid to another victim, applying pressure to a wound until emergency services arrived. Another resident said the bloodshed had been building for some time, telling the newspaper, "Esto se veía venir" (We saw this coming).
Everything exploded in a matter of seconds.
Gang rivalry and police fears
Investigators suspect the attackers were members of the Dominican Don't Play (DDP) gang, a rival of the Trinitarios. The dead man was known to belong to the Trinitarios' San Blas faction, and Ciudad Lineal is considered DDP territory. Police believe the assailants had tracked his movements for weeks before striking. The killing has raised fears of a retaliatory cycle; authorities are bracing for possible revenge attacks. This is the second gang-related homicide in Madrid in 2026, following the April stabbing of 17-year-old Diler in the Entrevías neighborhood, also carried out by a young assailant who arrived and fled on a scooter.
Investigation
The National Police's Homicide Group V has taken over the case, supported by the Scientific Police and the Provincial Information Brigade. As of Saturday, no arrests had been made and the murder weapon had not been recovered. Officers are reviewing security camera footage and interviewing witnesses. The organized nature of the attack, the use of machetes, and the escape on scooters point to a deliberate execution rather than a spontaneous brawl. Police have not ruled out further violence between the gangs.
