Gianni Alemanno and Roberto Vannacci launch Futuro Nazionale forum in Orvieto

Opening of the Orvieto forum

The political movement Futuro Nazionale opened its three-day Italian Independence Forum at the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo in Orvieto. Militants, guests, and lawmakers gathered for the convention centered on social sovereignism. Gianni Alemanno opened the proceedings on 19 September 2026, while Roberto Vannacci was scheduled to deliver the closing address. Alemanno stated that organizers invited representatives across the entire governing center-right as well as the left, but received no response from Fratelli d'Italia. He noted that he made several direct phone calls, including to Senate President Ignazio La Russa, before the ruling party declined to participate.

We invited all the governing center-right and also the left. We were not the ones who excluded anyone. There are those who chose to exclude themselves without even replying.

Political agenda and foreign policy

The conference agenda combined core themes of Futuro Nazionale with traditional social right policies, focusing on European integration, identity, immigration, and defense. The morning session began with a panel titled "How Much Brussels Costs Us", addressing European regulatory constraints, the Green Deal, and the war in Ukraine. Alemanno stated that an alliance with the governing coalition would require halting the conflict along current front lines, asserting that Europe cannot risk a nuclear conflict over Crimea and the Donbass. The second day included a 09:30 session with Alternative for Germany (AfD) Member of the European Parliament Marc Jongen. Alemanno defended AfD against accusations of extremism and predicted that Marine Le Pen would win the French presidency next year.

Immigration and prison policy

Discussions continued in the afternoon with debates on Western decline, remigration, and prison reform. Alemanno defined remigration as rotational immigration, where foreign workers return to their home countries once their employment contracts expire. He argued that the expansion of artificial intelligence will eliminate many jobs currently performed by migrant labor. Drawing on his own time in detention, Alemanno addressed overcrowding and safety in Italian correctional facilities. He stated that foreign ethnic groups currently overpower Italian inmates inside correctional institutions and argued that prison rehabilitation directly affects public security outside.

Relations with Giorgia Meloni

Throughout his remarks, Alemanno called on Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to clarify her political trajectory. He argued that Meloni must decide whether to align with the European People's Party alongside Antonio Tajani and Ursula von der Leyen or join the broader European sovereignist bloc. Alemanno stated that the lack of dialogue between Futuro Nazionale and the government stems entirely from the governing coalition's refusal to communicate. Looking ahead to upcoming general elections, Alemanno projected that Futuro Nazionale would secure more than 10% of the vote before Vannacci mounts a bid for prime minister in the subsequent election cycle.

Giorgia Meloni must decide once and for all what she wants to do when she grows up: whether she wants to be a conservative moving toward the European People's Party or stay in the great sovereignist movement that is growing across Europe.
