26-year-old driver seriously injured in head-on crash on B458 near Fulda
A 26-year-old woman was seriously hurt after her car veered into oncoming traffic and struck two vehicles on the B458 federal highway near Fulda on Saturday afternoon.
Crash sequence
At around 16:15 on Saturday, a 26-year-old female driver travelling on the B458 between Dipperz and Petersberg in the Fulda district drifted left out of her lane for reasons still unknown. Her car first sideswiped a vehicle carrying four occupants, then collided head-on with a second oncoming car.
Rescue and injuries
The woman was trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by the local fire brigade. She was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the second car and the four people in the sideswiped vehicle all sustained light injuries and were treated at the scene by emergency responders.
Investigation and damage
Police from the Osthessen presidium stated that the cause of the lane departure remains unclear. They estimated the total damage from the three-vehicle crash at approximately 100,000 euros.
