Frankfurt seizes early derby control

Eintracht Frankfurt secured a 3-1 victory over FSV Mainz 05 in the Rhein-Main derby, handing the home team only their second Bundesliga home defeat against Frankfurt in club history. The result reversed the momentum established in the previous round of Bundesliga fixtures. Mainz had entered the derby following widespread praise for a 5-0 away victory against Hamburg, whereas Frankfurt arrived in Mainz surrounded by internal unrest after suffering a 1-4 home loss against Augsburg.
