A car attempting to pass multiple vehicles collided head-on with three mopeds on the L 200 near Biesenthal, killing four people and injuring the driver.
Collision on the Landesstraße 200
Four people died in a head-on traffic collision on Wednesday evening along the Landesstraße 200 near Biesenthal in the Barnim district of Brandenburg. The initial emergency calls reached dispatchers at approximately 19:40 regarding a multi-vehicle collision on the Rüdnitzer Chaussee section connecting Biesenthal and Wullwinkel. The site is located about 30 kilometers northeast of Berlin, or roughly a 40-minute drive from Alexanderplatz, set within the lake and forest surroundings of the Barnim Nature Park. Police findings indicated that four light motorcycles were traveling together in a southward direction from Biesenthal toward Wullwinkel. A passenger car approaching in the opposite direction pulled out to overtake several vehicles in front of it. The car crossed into the opposing traffic lane and collided head-on with three of the four oncoming mopeds.

Casualties and vehicle fire
The collision resulted in four immediate deaths at the scene, comprising three moped drivers and one female passenger riding pillion on one of the vehicles. The operator of the fourth moped managed to steer away from the oncoming car, avoiding the impact entirely and escaping without physical injury. The driver of the passenger car sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to a regional hospital for medical treatment. Shortly after the impact, the car caught fire and came to rest upside down on its roof in a ditch running alongside the two-lane roadway. Firefighters brought the vehicle fire under control, leaving the car almost completely burned out. Hours after the collision, the vehicle remained overturned in the ditch beside fields and meadows, with the surrounding vegetation showing minimal fire damage.

Emergency response and pastoral care
Police, emergency medical teams, and local fire departments mobilized a large contingent of personnel to secure the rural stretch of road. A police spokesperson told the Deutsche Presse-Agentur that the emergency response was exceptionally challenging and created a heavy emotional burden for all personnel involved. Grieving relatives of the deceased victims traveled to the rural road shortly after receiving word of the incident. In response, emergency chaplains and specialized crisis intervention teams deployed to the scene to provide psychological support to the arriving family members as well as the emergency workers. The Landesstraße 200 was placed under a complete closure through Wednesday night to permit salvage work, vehicle recovery, and the systematic collection of physical evidence.
Technical investigation and victim identification
An independent technical expert joined police investigators at the scene between Biesenthal and Wullwinkel to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the fatal overtaking maneuver. The Frankfurt an der Oder police headquarters did not release the identities or ages of the victims on Wednesday night, as formal identification procedures remained underway. A police spokesperson addressed reporters shortly before midnight to explain that verified personal details would not be made available until the morning.
Information on that will only be available tomorrow morning.
The affected route remained cordoned off into Thursday morning as recovery crews worked to clear the overturned wreckage and investigators completed documentation of the roadway.
