Olympiacos beats Raków 2-1 in pre-season friendly as Fortounis returns with a goal
Kostas Fortounis marked his unofficial return after two years with a stunning free kick, and Roman Yaremchuk scored a stoppage-time winner as Olympiacos came from behind to beat Polish side Raków Częstochowa 2-1 in their first pre-season friendly in the Netherlands.
First-half dominance without reward
Olympiacos controlled the opening 45 minutes, deploying a 4-2-3-1 formation under coach José Luis Mendilibar. Rodinei was the most active player, creating several chances from the right, while Clayton and Tsikinio also threatened. The best opportunity fell to Scipioni in the 15th minute, but his shot struck the crossbar. Despite 15 attempts to Raków's two, the Greek side could not break the deadlock before half-time.
Raków strikes first
Mendilibar changed the entire lineup at the break, and the tempo dropped. Against the run of play, the Polish team took the lead in the 70th minute. Brunes rose highest in the box and powered a header past goalkeeper Tsobanidis to make it 1-0.
Fortounis announces his return
Olympiacos responded immediately. In the 85th minute, Fortounis, who had come on as a substitute, curled a direct free kick into the net, leaving the Raków goalkeeper with no chance. It was the midfielder's first goal since returning to the club after a two-year absence, even if only in an unofficial friendly.
Yaremchuk completes the comeback
Deep into added time, Fortounis delivered a cross for Yaremchuk. The Ukrainian's header hit the crossbar, but he reacted quickest to the rebound and forced the ball over the line in the 93rd minute, sealing a 2-1 victory.
