A flash flood and landslide hit the small locality of Manzanedo de Valdueza, in the municipality of Ponferrada, León, on the evening of Saturday 15 August 2026. The event occurred shortly after 19:30 hours, according to the 112 emergency service. The 112 operations room received several calls at 19:38 reporting what had happened. The flood caused a displacement of earth in the village, which lies in the Berciano region of León province.
Several people remain missing and others have been injured as a result of the flood and landslide. The 112 service described the toll as provisional, and no information has been released regarding the severity of the injuries suffered by those affected. The full number of people involved has not yet been determined.

Emergency response deployed
The 112 operations room alerted multiple emergency services to the scene. Ponferrada firefighters, the National Police, the Local Police of Ponferrada, the Centro Coordinador de Emergencias, and the Grupo de Intervención Psicológica en Desastres y Emergencias (GRIPDE) were all dispatched and are working in the area.
The Centro Coordinador de Emergencias of the Agencia de Protección Civil activated a rescue helicopter, which departed toward the location. Emergencias Sanitarias of Sacyl, the regional health service, sent two ambulances, one basic life support (SVB) and one advanced life support (SVA), along with medical personnel from the punto de atención continuado (PAC), a continuous-care health facility.
Search and rescue ongoing
Emergency teams are actively searching for the missing persons and treating the injured at the site. All the dispatched agencies, including firefighters, both police forces, the rescue helicopter crew, ambulance teams, and the psychological intervention group, are operating in the zone. The provisional balance, as reported by the 112 service, lists several people as disappeared and others as wounded, with the search continuing into the evening.
