Greek police arrest five youths after four vehicle chases across Attica
Officers from the DIAS motorcycle unit and the Immediate Action patrol service arrested five individuals aged 16 to 21 following vehicle pursuits in four separate districts across the Attica region on 28 September 2026.
Four pursuits across the Attica region
Police operations across the Attica region on Monday, 28 September 2026, resulted in the apprehension of five young suspects following four separate vehicle chases. Officers assigned to the motorcycle-borne DIAS unit and the Immediate Action patrol division of the General Police Directorate of Attica encountered non-compliant drivers across four distinct municipalities: Megara, Glyka Nera, Kamatero, and Anavyssos. In each separate encounter, individuals operating motorcycles and a passenger car refused to comply with official police signals demanding that they stop for an administrative check. Instead of pulling over, the drivers accelerated and performed high-speed, evasive maneuvers through urban and suburban streets. The four incidents unfolded across geographically dispersed sectors of Attica, requiring tactical response and pursuit coordination by patrol vehicles and motorcycle teams to safely intercept the fleeing vehicles.
Dangerous maneuvers and the Kamatero incident
The evasive tactics employed by the drivers during the chases created immediate hazards for road users and pursuing officers. In two of the four cases, the fleeing motorists deliberately violated posted stop signs, entering intersections at elevated speeds and disregarding pedestrian and vehicular safety. The most severe incident occurred in Kamatero, involving a 16-year-old motorcycle driver. According to reports from the Hellenic Police, the teenage driver steered his motorcycle directly against pursuing law enforcement officers during the chase. The explicit objective of this maneuver was to divert the police vehicles and disrupt their pursuit path. Officers managed to neutralize the threat and halt the motorcycle without sustaining severe vehicular collisions or allowing the suspect to escape into adjacent residential areas.

Unlicensed youths and weapon confiscation
Following the immobilization of the vehicles across Megara, Glyka Nera, Kamatero, and Anavyssos, police officers conducted on-site identity checks and physical searches of all occupants. The five apprehended individuals were identified as youths aged 16, 18, and 21. During the checks, officers discovered that three of the detained suspects were driving without possessing a valid driver's license. Additionally, during one of the vehicle stops, law enforcement officers apprehended a 16-year-old passenger who was found carrying a knife on his person. Officers confiscated the weapon as physical evidence and documented the absence of licensing for the respective vehicle operators before transporting all five individuals to local police precincts for formal booking and questioning.
Formal charges and judicial proceedings
Following the initial bookings, Hellenic Police authorities assembled detailed case files against each of the five detainees for review by the competent public prosecutor. The formal charges leveled against the suspects on an individualized basis include dangerous driving, violence against state employees, disobedience to lawful police orders, bodily harm, and infringements of the legislation governing weapons possession. The case files document each sequence of events across the four pursuit locations, detailing the refusal to halt at inspection checkpoints, the disregard of traffic control devices, the direct confrontation against officers in Kamatero, and the unauthorized operation of vehicles by unlicensed minors and young adults. The five suspects were subsequently transferred under custody to the relevant prosecutor's office to undergo formal judicial proceedings.
