Fire breaks out near Artemida town hall, burns garbage and vegetation

A fire broke out shortly after 13:45 on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, near the town hall in Artemida, a coastal town east of Athens. The flames ignited at the intersection of Athinas and Artemidos streets, close to the OTE telecommunications building.
Fire behaviour and immediate response
Multiple fire service units were dispatched from Artemida, Vravrona, Markopoulo, Keratea, and the Civil Protection of Rafina-Pikermiou. The fire is burning garbage and low vegetation. Authorities stated there is no risk of the fire spreading to surrounding structures or forested areas.
Water supply challenge
Because of the large volume of refuse feeding the flames, firefighting operations require substantial quantities of water. Additional reinforcements are arriving at the scene, and water tankers from the municipality of Spata-Artemidos have been requested to assist in extinguishing the blaze.
No danger to residents
No evacuation orders or injuries have been reported. The fire remains contained to the area of the OTE building near the town hall, and officials do not expect it to expand beyond the current perimeter.
