
Fire at scrap metal depot in Port of Agigea triggers RO-Alert smoke warning; no casualties reported
A fire broke out Sunday morning at a scrap metal and waste depot in Romania’s Port of Agigea, sending plumes of smoke over the nearby town. Authorities issued a RO-Alert at 6:55 AM but said there is no danger of the blaze spreading and no evacuations are needed.

A fire involving scrap metal and waste ignited at Gate 10 of the Port of Agigea on the morning of June 28, 2026. The blaze produced large amounts of smoke, prompting ISU Dobrogea to send a RO-Alert message to residents of the Agigea area at 6:55 AM. The alert warned of smoke drifting from the port zone toward the locality.
There are no propagation problems, no victims, and evacuations are not required.
Emergency response
Four water-and-foam fire engines, one aerial platform, and one SMURD B ambulance from ISU Constanța were dispatched to the fire. A private operator also contributed one fire truck. Crews focused on extinguishing the flames and limiting smoke emissions. As of the latest update, the fire remained contained with no risk of spreading, and no injuries had been reported. The intervention was ongoing while authorities monitored the smoke’s effect on the surrounding area.
