Arthur Fery, a wild card ranked 114th, stuns Wimbledon to reach semifinals alongside Zverev
British wild card Arthur Fery, ranked 114th in the world, continued his dream run at Wimbledon 2026 by beating French Open finalist Flavio Cobolli. He will face Alexander Zverev in the semifinals after the German swept Taylor Fritz.
Fery's fairytale continues
Arthur Fery, the 23-year-old Briton who entered Wimbledon on an organisational wild card, defeated Italy's Flavio Cobolli 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-0 in the quarter-finals. Fery, ranked 114th at the start of the tournament, became the first male player to reach a Grand Slam semifinal as a wild card since Goran Ivanisevic won the Wimbledon title in 2001. He had only 11 career ATP wins before this event and is now guaranteed a top-40 ranking.
I just can't believe it. Playing on Centre Court for the second time and getting a second win, I can't believe it.
Fery had beaten Cobolli earlier this year at the Australian Open and said that gave him confidence. He swept the third set 6-0 after a tight second-set tiebreak.
Zverev breaks his quarter-final ceiling
Alexander Zverev, the third seed and French Open champion, reached his first Wimbledon semifinal after falling at the fourth round in all nine previous appearances. He beat Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4, 6-2, hitting 17 aces and converting four of six break points. The win snapped a seven-match losing streak against Fritz dating back more than two years.
I played a fantastic match and I'm extremely happy to be in the semifinals, especially against Taylor, whom I hadn't beaten in over two years.
Zverev now has 12 consecutive victories at majors. The other men's semifinal will pit defending champion Jannik Sinner against seven-time winner Novak Djokovic.
Women's semifinals set
Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine, the 13th seed, advanced to her second straight Grand Slam semifinal by ousting last year's finalist Jasmine Paolini 6-3, 6-2. She became only the second Ukrainian woman to reach the Wimbledon semifinals, after Elina Svitolina. Czech 12th seed Linda Noskova joined her with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Elise Mertens, recording her 18th grass-court win in two years, the most of any player on the WTA Tour in that span.
