Bayern Munich extends Javier Fernandez loan at 1. FC Nürnberg into 2026/27 season, while Jannik Hofmann joins Rot-Weiss Essen permanently
The 19-year-old Spanish midfielder will spend another season on loan from Bayern Munich in the 2. Bundesliga. Jannik Hofmann, meanwhile, completes a permanent switch to Rot-Weiss Essen after 18 years at the club.
Fernandez loan extended
Javier Fernandez, the 19-year-old Spanish midfielder, will remain at 1. FC Nürnberg for the 2026/27 campaign after Bayern Munich agreed to a renewed loan deal. He initially arrived in Franconia during the winter break of the 2025/26 season and made eight appearances in the second division, providing one assist. The club announced the extension on 13 June 2026.
Javier has shown what great potential he has. We are delighted with the steps he has taken since joining us. The plan was always to keep him beyond the second half of the season, so we are very pleased that this plan is now coming to fruition.
Coach Miroslav Klose will therefore continue to have the Bayern academy product available in midfield. No further contract details were disclosed.
Hofmann heads to Essen after 18 years
In a separate move, right-back Jannik Hofmann has left Nürnberg permanently to join Rot-Weiss Essen, the third-division side where he spent the previous season on loan. The 24-year-old had been with the club since the age of six, progressing from the youth ranks to the first team. RWE did not specify the length of his contract.
Jannik has followed a remarkable path at the club, from the under-7s all the way up to the professional squad. We are happy that this journey turned out so well for him and wish him nothing but the best for his future.
Hofmann's exit ends a continuous association of 18 years with the "Club."
