Woman stabbed to death in Mairena del Aljarafe home; partner hospitalised with self-inflicted injuries after suspected gender-based murder
A woman aged between 44 and 45 was found dead with stab wounds in her home on Calle San Isidro Labrador in Mairena del Aljarafe, Seville, in the early hours of Saturday. Her partner, who also had knife wounds apparently self-inflicted, is in hospital; the Guardia Civil suspects a gender-based murder.
The incident
In the early hours of Saturday, 27 June 2026, emergency services were alerted to a possible assault at number 39 Calle San Isidro Labrador in Mairena del Aljarafe, a town near Seville. At 00:51 a witness, later identified as a minor living in the household, called 112 after hearing screams. Local police, Guardia Civil, and paramedics arrived to find a woman dead from stab wounds and a man with self-inflicted knife injuries. The woman, whose age is reported as 44 or 45, was pronounced dead at the scene. The man, her partner and aged between 44 and 46, was transported in serious condition to a hospital in Seville. The couple had at least one minor child, though it is unclear if the child was the biological son of both.
Investigation and official response
The Guardia Civil opened an investigation with the primary hypothesis of a gender-based murder. Subdelegado del Gobierno en Sevilla Francisco Toscano confirmed that preliminary checks showed neither the victim nor the alleged aggressor were registered in the VioGen system, and no prior complaints had been filed.
We are in a very early phase of the investigation, but the Guardia Civil is working with the main hypothesis of a presumed murder due to gender violence.
The City Council of Mairena del Aljarafe issued a statement asking residents for "responsibility and prudence," urging them to avoid spreading unconfirmed information or speculation that could interfere with the investigation. It expressed "deep sorrow" and offered support to the victim's family and friends. The council also reminded people to use official reporting channels if they suspect any form of violence.
National context and calls for reporting
If confirmed, this death would be the 25th woman killed by a partner or ex-partner in Spain so far in 2026 and the sixth in Andalusia. Since official records began in 2003, 1,365 women have been murdered in such cases. Toscano appealed to women and their social circles to contact the authorities at the first sign of violence, stressing that early reporting activates protection protocols.
I want to call on all women and anyone around them to report any sign of possible violence to the authorities and the State security forces, because that allows the protection protocols and systems to be activated.
