A driver died in hospital on Sunday after a Dacia overturned and struck two vehicles on Warsaw's Trasa Łazienkowska near the Wisłostrada exit.
Fatal collision on Trasa Łazienkowska
On Sunday afternoon, 4 October 2026, a fatal traffic accident occurred on Trasa Łazienkowska in Warsaw. The incident took place along Aleja Armii Ludowej just before the exit leading onto the Wisłostrada, near the Rozbrat bus stop and the Torwar arena. Preliminary findings by the police established that the driver of a Dacia passenger vehicle lost control of his car. The vehicle crashed into roadside energy-absorbing crash barriers before striking two other passenger cars traveling along the artery. The force of the impact caused the Dacia to overturn and come to rest on its side in the roadway. The Warsaw State Fire Service logged the initial emergency call for the accident at 14:40.
Immediate rescue efforts and hospital transfer
Immediately following the crash, witnesses who were driving other vehicles stopped to provide aid before emergency personnel arrived. Bystanders pulled the unconscious driver out through the trunk of the overturned Dacia to begin emergency care. Firefighters and emergency medical teams arrived shortly afterward and took over cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the roadway. The injured driver was placed in an ambulance and transported in critical condition to the nearby hospital on Grenadierów Street. Senior Captain Łukasz Moskwa of the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Warsaw described the immediate response.
Two passenger cars collided. One of the drivers was injured. Rescuers conducted cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The injured man was transported to the hospital on Grenadierów.
Moskwa explained the position of the damaged vehicle on the carriageway.
One of the cars overturned on its side. It is lying in the left lane towards Praga. The injured man was traveling in this car.
Police investigation and driver death
Medical staff at the hospital continued attempts to save the driver, but he died from his injuries shortly after arrival. Junior Aspirant Jakub Gontarek of the Warsaw police confirmed the casualty to reporters.
Unfortunately, we received information that the man has died.
Gontarek confirmed that the other drivers involved in the multi-car collision did not sustain injuries during the crash. Officers at the scene administered breathalyzer tests to the remaining motorists, determining that both were sober and possessed valid driving credentials. Police officers commenced investigative procedures on site to reconstruct the circumstances of the crash and determine why the Dacia driver lost control of his vehicle.
Road closures and traffic disruptions
The crash and subsequent emergency response resulted in substantial traffic delays along Trasa Łazienkowska, a primary east-west transit route through the capital. Emergency services blocked two of the three traffic lanes heading east in the direction of the Praga district to accommodate ambulances and fire engines. The resulting congestion affected traffic around the Torwar sports hall and the exit ramps connecting Aleja Armii Ludowej to the Wisłostrada. Following the initial rescue work, the left lane towards Praga remained blocked as police technicians continued site documentation and vehicle recovery.
