Fatal attack in central Inowrocław

A 41-year-old resident of Inowrocław died late on Thursday, 24 September 2026, after being attacked by two men on a parking lot adjacent to the Municipal Theatre in the town centre. The incident occurred in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship at approximately 23:00. According to investigative findings, two assailants armed with knives approached the victim while he was standing on the parking lot and struck him repeatedly across several areas of his body. Following the knife assault, the attackers fled the area on foot. Emergency medical response teams arrived on site shortly after receiving the alert and initiated resuscitation procedures. However, the injuries were too severe, and the 41-year-old victim was pronounced dead on the parking lot.

Police detention of two local suspects

Following the assault, officers from the District Police Headquarters in Inowrocław launched an immediate operational search to track down and detain the attackers. Police identified and apprehended two suspects, aged 34 and 38, both of whom are also local residents of Inowrocław. The two men were transferred to police custody for holding and formal questioning under prosecutor supervision. Staff Senior Aspirant Izabela Lewicka-Waszak, press officer for the Inowrocław police, summarized the operational response and confirmed the arrest of the two men.

Two perpetrators were involved in the incident, who approached the 41-year-old with knives in hand, attacked him inflicting several blows to various parts of the body, after which they fled. In the course of actions, the persons suspected of this act were detained by the police. At the scene of the incident, officers carried out necessary actions and an inspection under the supervision of a prosecutor.

Investigation and evidence gathering

An investigative and forensic team operated at the crime scene throughout the night under the direction of the local district prosecutor's office. Police secured physical traces, carried out site inspections, and conducted formal interrogations of witnesses who were in the vicinity of the Municipal Theatre. In addition, officers secured surveillance video recordings covering the parking lot and surrounding streets. The security footage showed that the attackers had attempted to conceal their identities by covering their faces with masks during the assault. District prosecutors and police detectives continue to analyze the physical and video evidence to establish the exact sequence of events and identify the motive behind the fatal stabbing.

At present, further procedural actions are being conducted to explain the exact course and circumstances of this tragic incident.

Context of the investigation

The fatal stabbing in Inowrocław occurred on the same day as another knife incident in Poland. Earlier on Thursday morning, five people were attacked with a knife at a Benedictine abbey in Jarosław, located in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship, resulting in the death of a priest. Although law enforcement authorities confirmed that the two events were completely unrelated, both took place within the same 24-hour span on 24 September 2026. In Inowrocław, police and prosecutors are completing witness depositions, reviewing the secured surveillance tapes, and preparing criminal proceedings against the two detained men.
