
Pedestrian dies after BMW strikes crosswalk and crashes into Mercedes in Żywiec
One woman died in hospital and four other people were injured on Wednesday after a BMW hit two pedestrians on a marked crossing and collided with other cars near a petrol station in Żywiec.
Vehicle collision at the marked crosswalk
A fatal road accident occurred on Wednesday, 30 September, in the town of Żywiec within the Silesian Voivodeship. Emergency dispatches recorded the collision between 12:10 and 12:30 at the intersection of Józef Piłsudski Avenue and Paweł Komoniecki Street, near a BP petrol station. According to findings from the scene, the driver of a BMW struck two pedestrians who were crossing on a designated, marked crosswalk. Following the impact with the pedestrians, the BMW collided with a Mercedes passenger car. Emergency services noted that three passenger cars in total were involved in the collision directly in front of the crossing.
Around 12:10 today at the intersection of Józef Piłsudski Avenue and Paweł Komoniecki Street, a road incident occurred involving three passenger cars and two pedestrians. Preliminary findings indicate that two pedestrians crossing on a marked pedestrian crosswalk were struck and vehicles collided.
Emergency response and hospitalizations
The collision prompted an immediate deployment of municipal police patrols, firefighters from the Żywiec fire service, emergency medical crews, and the Polish Medical Air Rescue (LPR). Five people sustained injuries in the incident and required transport to regional hospitals. Two of the hospitalized individuals were the pedestrians struck while traversing the crosswalk, while the remaining three casualties were occupants of the involved vehicles. A medical rescue helicopter landed near the roadway to evacuate one of the injured drivers to a hospital. Fire crews worked alongside paramedics to secure the perimeter and triage the injured victims.
Fatal outcome and medical condition
Hospital assessments indicated that four of the five injured patients were admitted in serious condition. Later that afternoon, the Provincial Police Headquarters in Katowice announced that one of the struck pedestrians, a woman, had died in the hospital from the injuries sustained during the collision. Silesian police issued formal confirmation of the death shortly before 18:00.

Captain Tomasz Kołodziej from the Żywiec fire department reported that the multi-vehicle crash led to prolonged traffic disruptions across nearby intersections. Firefighters cleared the damaged vehicles from the street and removed wreckage after the initial evidence collection was completed. Police and road services subsequently reopened the junction to normal vehicular traffic.
