
Man severely injured and 31 evacuated in garage explosion in Kerzers
A 59-year-old man sustained severe burns in an explosion inside a residential garage in Kerzers, prompting the precautionary evacuation of 31 neighbors.
An explosion occurred early Friday afternoon in the garage of a residential building on Moosgasse in Kerzers, in the canton of Fribourg. A 59-year-old man who was carrying out work alone inside the garage suffered severe burns in the blast, the Fribourg Cantonal Police announced on Saturday.
A nearby municipal worker initially rescued the injured man before emergency medical personnel and paramedics from Murten provided treatment at the scene. A Rega rescue helicopter subsequently transported the victim to a hospital.
Authorities evacuated 31 neighborhood residents as a safety precaution and closed the street to traffic during emergency operations. Residents returned to their homes later on Friday afternoon after officials ruled out further hazards at the site. The precise cause of the explosion remains under official investigation.
