
Wildfire in Evia contained after 112 alert; 35 firefighters and 6 aircraft deployed
Firefighters contained a wildfire that broke out at noon on Saturday in Episkopi, in the Kymi-Aliveri municipality of Evia, after deploying ground and air units and issuing a 112 evacuation alert.
The fire burned agricultural and forest land. The response included 35 firefighters, a pedestrian unit from the 20th EMODE, 12 vehicles, four firefighting aircraft and two helicopters, along with water tankers and machinery from local government. Shortly before 14:00, the 112 emergency alert system instructed residents to evacuate to the Vrysi settlement.
A team from the Evia Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes is heading to the area to investigate the cause. The region was under a high fire risk (category 3) according to the daily fire danger forecast map.
