Finland hosts Group C matches in Tampere, while Group D fixtures are held at the indoor arena in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Results from the opening day of pool play

Competition commenced on Wednesday, 9 September, with two scheduled fixtures in the preliminary round. In Group B, co-host Bulgaria faced North Macedonia in Sofia for the opening fixture of that section. Bulgaria claimed a 3:0 victory, winning the first set 25:17, the second set 25:19, and the third set 25:18. The match gave Bulgaria the initial lead in the Group B standings. In Group D, tournament co-host Romania met Latvia in Cluj-Napoca. Latvia defeated Romania by a score of 3:1, securing the first victory in that pool and handing the co-hosts an early setback in front of their home supporters.

Six-match schedule set for Thursday

The group stage continues on Thursday, 10 September, with six matches scheduled across all four preliminary groups. In Group B, Poland opens its tournament against Portugal in Sofia in the early afternoon, with match times scheduled between 14:45 and 15:00 depending on regional broadcast listings. Later in the same group, Israel meets Ukraine in Sofia at 17:45. In Group D, matches in Cluj-Napoca begin with France playing Switzerland in the afternoon, followed by a matchup between Turkey and Germany in the evening. Group C action begins in Tampere as co-host Finland takes on Denmark. Group A concludes the day's slate in Italy, where the Italian national team faces Sweden in the late evening window.

Progression through the knockout rounds in Sofia, Turin, and Milan

Following the completion of the preliminary stage, the tournament advances to the knockout phase across three selected cities. The round of 16 and the quarter-final matches will be shared between Sofia in Bulgaria and Turin in Italy. Teams that qualify from the group stage will compete in these two cities to determine the four semi-finalists. The competition then relocates to Milan, Italy, for the concluding phase. Milan will stage both semi-final matches, the third-place bronze medal fixture, and the championship final on 26 September 2026 to conclude the 18-day continental tournament.
