Euronext plans to name NN Group CEO David Knibbe as Boujnah's successor

Euronext plans a leadership handover

Euronext, the group of European exchanges that includes Borsa Italiana, announced on Monday, 2 November 2026, that its supervisory board intends to propose David Knibbe as chief executive and chair of the managing board. The proposal is due before the company's annual general meeting on 20 May 2027. Knibbe replaces Stéphane Boujnah, who has led Euronext since 2015 and chose not to seek another mandate, so he leaves the post in May 2027. The group, which operates the exchanges of Amsterdam, Athens, Brussels, Dublin, Lisbon, Milan, Oslo and Paris, is a company under Dutch law. Like Boujnah before him, the new chief executive will be based in Paris. A spokesperson declined to comment beyond the company statement, citing a quiet period ahead of the publication of third-quarter results.

Who David Knibbe is

Knibbe is Dutch, 55 years old and was born in the Netherlands in 1971. He has been chief executive of NN Group, a Dutch insurance and financial services group that originated as a spin-off from ING, since 2019. Piero Novelli, who chairs Euronext's supervisory board, praised the record Knibbe built in another heavily regulated industry and said the proposal rests on it.

Novelli added that Knibbe's experience in successful integrations and technology transformation would be valuable as Euronext continues its strategy and invests in future growth. Euronext's own statement described Knibbe as well placed to keep growing the group in its next phase of strategic development and to advance the integration of European capital markets.

Approvals and timetable

The appointment depends on approval from the relevant national authorities, the Dutch finance minister and the shareholders at the meeting. Euronext said it plans to nominate Knibbe at the annual general meeting on 20 May 2027. Boujnah's departure is set for May 2027, so the handover falls in the same month as the planned vote. NN Group's successor

NN Group said in a separate statement that Tjeerd Bosklopper will succeed Knibbe as chief executive after the insurer's annual general meeting on 12 May 2027. Bosklopper is due to become CEO-designate on 1 March 2027. According to reporting, he currently leads NN's Dutch business. Both companies announced their leadership moves on the same day, so the two successions were disclosed together and remain subject to the dates set out in the statements.
