Estopa announces double album 'La Maketa' and four stadium dates in Spain for 2027
Estopa announced on Tuesday, 13 October 2026 a double album built from a 1996 demo tape, due 20 November, plus concerts in Valencia, Barcelona, Seville and Madrid in June and July 2027.
The announcement
Estopa, the Spanish duo of brothers David and Jose Muñoz, announced on Tuesday, 13 October 2026 a new album, 'La Maketa', due on 20 November. The news came at a press conference in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Geography and History of the University of Barcelona (UB), where David Muñoz is enrolled in a history degree. The record revisits songs from the band's earliest recordings, seven of them never released, alongside three new pieces (some coverage writes the title 'La MKT'). The first single, 'Bicho raro', will be published on Friday, 16 October, and album pre-sales open on Sunday, 18 October, a date that coincides with the band's birth on 18 October 1999. The dean of the faculty, Maria Soler, used the event to stress the importance of teaching the humanities, while David Muñoz called the public university "the real social elevator".
A cassette found in the family home
David Muñoz recounts that his father, while clearing the house, found a cassette labelled 'David y Jose 1996' that turned out to be the master tape of the demo. The first batch of songs was recorded at home that year, when Jose was 17 and David 20, using a mini hi-fi system while their father held the microphones. A second batch comes from a more professional session in 1997 at a studio in Sabadell, whose owner had kept the recordings and handed them back when asked. Jose Muñoz summed up the material this way:
It is our prehistory. We drew on those songs for our first record and much of the second, but many others stayed behind because we kept writing new ones. You always fall more in love with the new.
The double album will have a first volume of ten songs re-recorded for the release and a second volume of demos from those years, released as they were. Figures for the demo material differ: one account gives the original demo as 32 songs, while the full set of demos from those years is given as 33.
- Volume 1: re-recorded songs
- 10 songs
- Volume 2: demos from those years
- 33 songs
Tour dates and ticket sales
Estopa will play four stadium concerts in Spain in June and July 2027: the Estadi Ciutat de València on 12 June, the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Barcelona on 18 June, the Estadio La Cartuja in Seville on 26 June and the Metropolitano stadium in Madrid on 9 July. Seville is the only Andalusian date so far, and ABC notes that more dates are not ruled out as the weeks pass. The reports give conflicting ticket sale dates: Europa Press gives Saturday, 17 October, while ABC gives 17 November at 22:22, sold through the band's official website without a virtual queue. The last Estopa concert at La Cartuja was in 2024, according to ABC.
The teaser campaign
The announcement followed three teaser videos on social media. The first, 'Acto I', came on 27 September and showed a masked man in black painting a red 'E' for Estopa on a wall, with a ticking sound and the phrase "Algo está a punto de pasar" ("Something is about to happen"). The second, 'Acto II', appeared on Sunday, 4 October, with a man posing as a shop worker humming 'Por la Raja de Tu Falda' while he hung a poster with the band logo and four stadium images, one each for Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Valencia. The third, 'Acto III', came late in the week of 5 October and showed the brothers in a bar, promising "all the answers" on 13 October, including an explanation for the 'E' graffiti.
