
Fire breaks out in basement of building in Elefsina, Greece; traffic disrupted on Iera Odos
A fire broke out on Saturday evening in the basement of a building on Iera Odos in Elefsina, triggering road closures as three fire engines responded. The fire service said the situation is under control and there is no risk of spread.
Fire under control
A fire erupted on the evening of Saturday, 27 June 2026, in the basement of a building on Iera Odos in Elefsina, west of Athens. Thick smoke covered the area, prompting an immediate response from the fire brigade.
Emergency response
Eight firefighters with three vehicles were dispatched to the scene. The fire service reported that the situation is under control and there is no danger of the fire spreading. Strong police forces also arrived to assist with traffic management.
Traffic disruption
For safety reasons and to facilitate firefighting operations, police closed Iera Odos, a major road, at two key junctions: from the height of Adelphon Mouriki Street and from Koutalieri Street. Vehicles were diverted, and delays were reported.
The operation was ongoing as of Saturday evening, with no reports of injuries.
