A passenger bus travelling through Egypt's South Sinai governorate crashed on Wednesday morning on the main road connecting the coastal towns of Dahab and Nuweiba. The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population confirmed that 16 people died at the scene and 28 others were injured in the incident. The crash took place shortly before the locality of Al-Saada along a stretch of highway running parallel to the Red Sea coast. Medical authorities dispatched 20 ambulances to the location to administer emergency first aid and transfer the wounded to nearby medical facilities. Official agencies have not released the identities or nationalities of those killed in the collision, and the underlying cause of the accident remains undetermined.

Mobilization of emergency medical services

The Egyptian health ministry activated its central operations room immediately after receiving the initial alert from South Sinai emergency responders. Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar stated on Facebook that emergency protocols were enacted to oversee patient intake, triage, and rapid hospital evacuation across regional facilities. Health officials and regional administrative teams extended their sincere condolences to the families of the 16 deceased passengers. Abdel Ghaffar described the ongoing clinical coordination as medical teams mobilized to treat the 28 surviving passengers.

The ministry assures that all medical teams are working with full capacity to handle the incident efficiently and swiftly, and that the situation is being followed minute by minute.

Emergency crews and traffic personnel remained stationed along the Dahab-Nuweiba road through the morning to secure the crash zone and assist investigators.

Wednesday's crash follows a fatal incident last month in the Ismailia governorate in northern Egypt, where a collision between two pick-up trucks carrying agricultural workers killed between 15 and 18 people, the majority of whom were teenagers, and left 32 injured.
