Ed Sheeran cancels two concerts near Boston as early storm threatens US northeast
Organizers called off two performances at Gillette Stadium as an early-season storm threatens more than 40 million people along the US northeast coast with high winds and torrential rain.
An early-season storm is forecast to affect more than 40 million people along the northeastern US coast between Friday afternoon and Monday, bringing strong winds and torrential rains. Tour organizers for singer Ed Sheeran canceled two concerts scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Gillette Stadium near Boston as a precaution.
The National Weather Service issued a warning on its website ahead of the conditions.
Coastal flooding, violent winds, dangerous currents, strong waves and hazardous maritime conditions are expected.
Coastal areas from New Jersey to Massachusetts face risks of coastal erosion, falling trees, and power line damage, with wind gusts expected to exceed 100 km/h along parts of the New England coastline. Up to 13 centimetres of rain are forecast in eastern Massachusetts, including Boston, representing more than a month of precipitation. Coastal areas in North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey have already experienced flooding since Wednesday.
Gillette Stadium is owned by Robert Kraft, who previously removed opening act Macklemore from the tour following statements the rapper made in support of Palestinians. The move drew criticism toward Sheeran, who acknowledged "mistakes" during a concert on Saturday and described the situation in Gaza as "unjustifiable".
