The computer vision architecture relies on 16 million lines of code and a machine learning model trained on 470,000 dental images gathered across six years of product development. Once the camera identifies an interdental opening, the mechanism fires a targeted burst of mouthwash within 100 milliseconds. To calibrate cleaning performance in laboratory settings without continuous clinical trials, Dyson developed synthetic proxy plaque in partnership with the National University of Singapore's Faculty of Dentistry.
Fluid mechanics and reservoir design
Unlike conventional standalone water flossers that rely on narrow needle-style water jets, the CameraJet discharges a wide conical stream of fluid. Dyson designed the cone-shaped jet to clear plaque across a broader surface area while operating under reduced pressure, aiming to protect sensitive gum tissue and tooth enamel. Liquid feeds from an internal 12.5-milliliter (0.42 fluid ounces, or roughly two and a half teaspoons) anti-gravity tank located around the neck of the brush handle. An internal air bladder expands gradually as liquid is consumed, eliminating air pockets and stabilizing fluid pressure during operation. A diaphragm pump and pressure chamber allow continuous, controlled spraying at any angle, including upside down. When seated in the powered docking station, the internal tank recharges and refills automatically within three seconds.

The replaceable brush head utilizes softer outer bristles for cleaning along the gumline alongside stiffer central bristles intended to scrub away tooth stains.
